clutter.

Bookings, a small shop and the whole site in one login, set up so it loads well and stays easy to change, then handed over so the site is yours and not mine.

Where is your site now?: Which one
sounds like yours?

Most Wix work starts from one of these. Pick the closest and see what I would do.

Build it, buy it

Pick a size,
add the rest.

Every build price is days × £400 and no VAT is charged, so any number here can be checked. Nothing is paid when you order. A deposit, paid by card once you agree the written scope, starts the work. The balance is invoiced when it is finished, or paid monthly over up to 6 months at £400 a month or more.

1Pick a size

Every size includes the structure, design from a theme, build and handover. The search basics are in it too: a title and description written for every page, the sitemap submitted, and analytics connected. The extra below is the keyword research behind them.

3After launch

Once the site is live it has two running costs, paid to different people.

Hosting · paid to Wix

From $17 a month for the Wix plan the site runs on (US dollars only).

Wix bills you for this directly, so it is not part of anything you pay me.

Looking after it · paid to me

Choose one. It is how changes and upkeep work once the site is live.

For a site that rarely needs changing. No monthly fee: ask when you need something and pay for the time it takes.

  • A price first for anything over an hour
  • Billed on the next invoice

Nothing to sign up to, and nothing to cancel.

For a site with a few changes most months.

4 hours × £75: three hours of changes, and one kept free for you, so you get a reply within 12 working hours.

  • Three hours of changes a month
  • A reply within 12 working hours

Three months minimum, then a month's notice to stop. Hours are for use that month and do not carry over.

For a site that changes all the time.

9 hours × £75: eight hours of changes, and one kept free for you, so you get a reply within 12 working hours.

  • Eight hours of changes a month
  • A monthly call about what is next
  • Room for a small new feature most months

Three months minimum, then a month's notice to stop. Hours are for use that month and do not carry over.

Monthly plans are invoiced on the 1st, with no VAT charged. See maintenance plans.

Nearly there.
Who is it for?

Is Wix the right call?: Right for a lot of sites,
wrong for some.

Wix puts more in one login than anything else here: bookings, a small shop, forms and chat. The trade is that a Wix site stays on Wix, so it suits a business that is happy to stay.

Compare all four platforms
  • It fits when
  • You want bookings and a small shop in one login
  • You will edit it yourself
  • Nobody will look after updates
  • Something else fits when
  • You might want to move platforms later. WordPress is the safer start
  • The site is mostly a shop. Shopify is built for it
Fewer widgets,
faster pages.

Reading on Wix

Guides, if you would rather read first.

Before you ask: Wix
questions.

If yours is not here, ask it on a call. Thirty minutes, and it is free.

01 How much does a Wix website cost per month in the UK?

Wix only publishes prices in US dollars, so the sterling figure moves with the exchange rate and with whatever promotion is running. You pay it to Wix directly. The build here is a one-off fixed price, and there is no hosting to buy from me.

02 How much does a Wix website cost?

Two numbers, kept separate. Building it is mine: from £600, days of work at £400 a day, no VAT. Running it is Wix's, and Wix prices in US dollars only.

03 How much does it cost to hire a Wix designer?

The same £400 a day as everything else, so £600 for one page. The build starts from one of Wix's own website design templates, adapted to your brand.

04 Will I be able to edit it myself?

Yes. You get a written guide at handover, and anything you are likely to change is left where you can find it.

05 Which Wix plan do I need?

Light for most sites, and Core if you take payments. Wix only shows US dollar prices on its plans page, so check the price at checkout.

06 Can a Wix site be moved later?

Not as it is. Wix does not export a site you can take elsewhere, so moving means rebuilding. If you might outgrow it, WordPress is the safer place to start.

07 Do you set up Wix Bookings?

Yes, as an extra: £400, or £600 with deposits or payment at booking.

08 How long does it take?

A five page site is usually a few weeks from the written scope, and the scope gives you real dates rather than a range.

09 How do we pay?

Nothing is paid when you order. Once you agree the written scope, a deposit is invoiced and paid by card, and that starts the work. The balance is invoiced when the site is finished, or paid monthly by Direct Debit over up to six months at £400 a month or more. Monthly costs nothing extra: no interest, and no VAT charged.

10 What happens after launch?

You get the logins and a written guide to the everyday changes. Looking after it is optional: changes are £75 an hour, or a monthly plan if there will be a lot of them.

The other platforms: Not sure Wix
is the one?

The same work on the other three, priced the same way, and a custom build for the jobs none of the four can do. Pick the one that suits whoever will run the site.
