Shopify SEO services: Shopify decides a lot
of this for you.
Shopify is good at being a shop and opinionated about being a website. Some of what it does is fixed, some is theme, and some is an app somebody installed two years ago. Knowing which is most of the job.
Canonicals·Collections·Apps·Theme
The job
Shopify gives every product several addresses, puts collections under a path you cannot change, and lets any app inject whatever it likes into the head of every page. None of that is a fault, but all of it decides how the store is read.
So Shopify SEO services are less about writing and more about knowing the platform: what can be changed, what has to be worked around, and which app is quietly adding a second of load to every page.
Shopify SEO services: The whole list, nothing extra.
Every one of these is in the price. If a job needs something that is not here, it is in the written scope before you say yes, not on the invoice after.
The URLs Shopify makes for you
Every product exists at more than one address, under each collection it belongs to and on its own. Which one is canonical is a decision, and the default is not always the right one.
Collections that rank
Collection pages are your category pages and they are where the searches land. Most are a title and a grid, which is not a page that answers anything.
Product pages with their own words
If you sell other people’s products you share their descriptions with every other stockist. The ones that matter get written; the rest get a decision.
Apps, and what they cost you
Every app adds scripts to every page whether that page uses it or not. Reviews, popups, upsells and a currency switcher add up to a slow store nobody can point at.
Theme markup and structured data
Themes vary wildly in what they output. Headings, image handling and product schema all come from the theme, and all three are worth checking rather than assuming.
What happens to sold-out products
Shopify keeps them, hides them or 404s them depending on settings and theme. Whichever you choose, it should be chosen rather than discovered later.
What gets crawled
Your site crawled the way a search engine sees it, not the way it looks in a browser: what Google can reach, what it is ignoring, and why.
What gets measured
Core Web Vitals measured on your own pages, with your real content, rather than on a sample page built to score well.
What you get, in order
The findings written down in the order worth doing, so the first thing on the list is the thing that changes most.
The call
A walk through the findings, so you know what each one means before deciding whether any of it is worth paying for.
What gets fixed first
Whatever is stopping pages being found at all comes before anything that improves a page already working. A closed sign beats a slow page.
What happens next
The list is yours either way. Plenty of people take it away and do the work themselves, and it is not a lock-in.
The quick check
Quick check, £400. One day, the whole site crawled, and a written answer to what is reachable, what is ignored and why.
The full audit
Full technical audit, £1,200. For thousands of pages, a shop, or a migration behind you, where a day is not enough to be sure.
Keyword research
The keyword list from £150: the phrases, what they are searched, how hard they are and what the searcher actually wants.
Monthly, and the hours
From £150 a month, with the hours written on the plan, so what you are buying is a number of hours rather than a promise.
What is quoted separately
A migration, a rebuild, or writing the pages themselves. Those are their own jobs with their own prices, not absorbed into a retainer.
No ranking promises
Nobody can promise a position, and anybody who does is selling you the one thing they cannot deliver.
The first month
Setting up and finding out: access to Search Console and analytics, the site crawled and measured, and an ordered list of what is holding it back. The quickest fixes get made that month.
Months two and three
The list, worked through in order, with the hours on the plan. What changed is in the note at the end of each month. Search Console rarely shows much before week six.
What Search Console shows
Impressions before clicks, and clicks before anything that looks like a position. It is the only free record of what Google actually did with your pages.
What takes longest
A new site has no history, so it starts from nothing however good it is. That is the part nobody can shorten by paying more.
What I report
What was looked at, what was changed and how many hours went on it, next to the invoice. The same note the care plans get.
When to stop paying
When the fixes are done and nothing on the list needs an expert, a monthly plan stops being worth it, and I will say so rather than keep invoicing.
Working with a Shopify SEO consultant: From hello to handover.
Step 1
12 hours max
I reply
Working hours, unless I am on holiday and have said so.
Step 2
Day 0
Scope call
30 minutes. The store, the theme, the apps, and which collections earn.
Step 3
+2 days
Written scope
What is the platform, what is the theme and what is an app, each with what it is costing you and what it takes to fix.
Step 4
The work
Platform first
Canonicals, collections and the app load, before anything is rewritten.
Step 5
Then
The pages
Collections and the products that matter, in the order the scope set.
This is for you
Shopify SEO audit: Shopify SEO is for you
if any of these sound familiar.
- A Shopify store that stopped growing
- Collections that rank for nothing
- A theme somebody customised and left
- More apps than anybody can account for
It is not, if
- You want links bought
- You want the store rebuilt, not ranked
- You are not on Shopify
Not sure which side you are on? Say so on the call. If I am not the right person, you get the name of someone who is.
What Shopify SEO costs
Every price on the page,
before you call.
You should not have to sit through a call to find out whether you can afford me.
Collections, products and apps: Questions I get every time.
The honest answers. If yours is not here, it is the first thing we cover.
Ask me yours01 What do Shopify SEO services include here?
The platform first: canonicals, collection structure, the theme’s markup and what the apps are adding. Then collections and the products that earn. Not link building, and not paid ads.
02 Do you do a Shopify SEO audit?
Yes. The fixed-price SEO audit covers it, with the Shopify specifics added: the duplicate product paths, the app load and whatever the theme is doing with headings.
03 Do I get a Shopify SEO expert, or an account manager?
One person who knows the platform. On Shopify that matters more than usual, because most of the work is knowing what can actually be changed and what has to be designed around.
04 Can you fix the speed?
Usually, and usually it is the apps and the images rather than anything exotic. What I will not do is promise a score: the number moves with what the page contains, and chasing it is how stores end up with features removed that were earning.
05 We want a new store as well.
That is the build, and it is priced on Shopify website design. A store built with this in mind costs less than a store fixed afterwards.
06 Is this different from ecommerce SEO generally?
The principles are the same and the constraints are not. Ecommerce SEO covers the general case; this page is for stores where Shopify is making the decisions.
Usually goes with: Shopify SEO
and ecommerce SEO.
The general case, for stores on WooCommerce, Magento or something custom. The technical half is the same job.
