About
Twenty-five years of this.
Five of them paid.
I started at 15 with a library book and a <marquee> tag. The professional part is more recent, and more specific, so here it is in full.
The long version
I was 15, at school, and I found a book about HTML in the library. What I actually found was <marquee>. I wrote a file in Notepad, opened it, and watched my own name scroll across the screen. That was more or less that.
What followed was twenty years of doing it because I wanted to. WordPress and cPanel, my own sites, then sites for people I knew: a mate's plumbing business, a local gym, a company forum I volunteered for far too quickly. I wrote about what I was learning as I went, publicly, and in 2021 somebody read it and offered me a job.
That was five years at a company, all of it remote. Marketing coordinator first, then the internal website, then client websites, then the search work across both, finishing as Website and SEO Manager. An unusual order to learn it in, and the reason I think about a website as something that has to earn rather than something that has to ship.
Nearly all of it was B2B, which is a particular kind of website. The sale takes weeks, the person reading is rarely the person who signs, and what they need is something they can send to a colleague. I spent five years learning that the hard way, on our own site and on clients', and it is why the B2B pages here argue for specifications and enquiry routes rather than for traffic.
I am not the right person for everything. I am a good bet when there is a website that needs to exist and the plan for getting there has come apart.

Most developers were never handed SEO. Most SEOs were never handed a codebase. I got them the other way round, and it turns out to be the useful way round.
The long way round: I have watched the web
get rebuilt five times.

On my own
What I work in, day to day
Scope, honestly
A short no list, so the
yes list means something.
- Websites built and shipped
- Stalled builds picked up and finished
- Technical SEO and site structure
- Delivery lead cover
- Design, when there is nobody to do it
What I turn down
- Brand identity from scratch
- Paid media buying, or running your ads
- Link building, and anything bought from a network
- Rankings promised before the work has started
Ask anyway. If it is on this side, you get the name of someone who does it well.
Before you ask: The boring,
necessary bit.
Contracts, tax and notice. If your question is not here, it is the first thing we cover.
Ask me yours01 Are you inside or outside IR35?
Assessed per engagement. I work outside IR35 where the working practices genuinely support it, and I will not push for a determination the contract does not back up. Happy to review your assessment before anything is signed.
02 Do you work white-label through agencies?
Yes. Your brand on the work and your client relationship: I can front client calls under your name or stay entirely behind the scenes, whichever suits, and I will sign a non-solicit before you ask. My five years agency-side were as an employee rather than as a white-label supplier, so I have seen this arrangement from the receiving end, which is a useful place to have watched it from.
03 Limited company or sole trader?
A limited company, ADAMROE. LTD, number 17466558, registered in England and Wales. It is on every invoice and in the footer of every page here.
04 Are you VAT registered?
Not at the moment, so no VAT is charged. If that changes, you hear before it reaches an invoice.
05 How much notice do you need?
30 days either way once a contract is running. For new work I usually have something free within a few weeks.
06 Where are you based?
Milton Keynes, working remotely across the UK. Happy to come in for kick-offs and workshops where it actually helps.
07 Do you work evenings and weekends?
When a job needs it, at £600 a day, agreed in advance. Most work fits comfortably in the week.
08 Will you sign an NDA?
Yes, before the scope call if you need one.
Starting, or
stuck?
Tell me where it is. You leave the call knowing whether I am the right person.
