Website maintenance services: Updated and
backed up.
Website care plans, maintenance plans, support: the same job under different names. The dull jobs that stop a site breaking at 2am, and the changes that pile up. On WordPress the updates come with hosting. On any platform, Manage and Grow keep time free every month for changes.

Website maintenance packages and care plans: Which one
sounds like yours?
Website maintenance UK wide, on any platform. Most people arrive here because of one of these three, so start from whichever is true.
WordPress and the plugins have not been updated in months
Updates every month with a check afterwards, and a backup taken before any of it runs, so nothing goes out unwatched.
See the plansThere are small changes most months and nobody has time for them
Hours kept free every month for the words, the photos, a new page from a template you already have.

A take-on check first, £200, so I know what I am looking after before I promise to look after it.
See the plansStart a plan
Start it here,
not on a call.
Pick a plan for website maintenance, tell me where the site is, and send it over. If I did not build the site, it starts with a take-on check, £200, so I know what I am looking after before I promise to look after it. You'll hear back within 12 working hours.
Three months minimum. Any plan stops with a month's notice once that is up. Hours are for use that month and do not carry over. Squarespace, Wix and Shopify update themselves. A shop adds £37.50. Invoiced on the 1st, with everything else that month. No VAT charged.
Website maintenance, part by part: What it actually includes.
Changes every month
Manage keeps 3 hours a month free for changes, Grow keeps 8. Words, photos, a new page from an existing template, a fix.
A reply within 12 working hours
What it needs and how long it will take, before any of it is started.
Any platform
WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify. On WordPress, the updates come with hosting.
A monthly call
On Grow, a call every month about what is next, and room for a small new feature most months.
A note on the 1st
What was updated, what was changed and how many hours were used, next to the invoice. Hours do not carry over.
A take-on check first
For a site I did not build, a £200 check comes first, so I know what I am looking after before I promise to. Or pay as you go at £75 an hour.
WordPress security and updates
Patched, backed up,
put back.
Most WordPress sites are broken into through something out of date rather than anything clever. Security is maintenance nobody sees, and on hosting here it is handled: core and plugins updated every month and checked afterwards, a backup every day, and the site put back if an update breaks it.
- Core and plugins updated monthly, then checked
- A backup every day, kept off the server
- Put back if an update breaks something
- A firewall, and the certificate renewed for you
Updates, by platform
Who does the
maintenance.
Squarespace, Wix and Shopify update themselves, so a plan there is the changes and nothing else. WordPress does not, which is why its updates come with hosting rather than with a plan.
- Squarespace, Wix and Shopify patch themselves
- WordPress updates come with hosting, not the plan
- The plan is the changes, on any of the four
- A shop adds half an hour a month, either way
When a month needs more
Maintenance beyond
the hours allow.
Some months are busier than others. The hours in a plan are for that month and do not carry over, so a month that needs more than they allow gets priced before the work starts rather than after it has been done.
- A price for the extra, before anything starts
- Or move up a plan from the following month
- Hours used are written down on the 1st
- Nothing is billed that you did not agree to
Monthly website maintenance plans: What happens
without you asking.
Step 1
Every day
Watched
On WordPress hosting, uptime and security monitoring. If the site goes down, I am told straight away.
Step 2
Every month
Updated
On WordPress hosting, core, theme and plugins brought up to date, then checked. Each update puts the site into maintenance mode for a few seconds and then takes it back off. The other platforms update themselves.
Step 3
When you ask
Changed
Changes made within the plan's hours, with a reply within 12 working hours.
Step 4
On the 1st
Written down
What was updated, what was changed and the hours used, next to the invoice.
Dull, every month.
That is the job.
This is for you
Website maintenance services is for you
if any of these sound familiar.
- WordPress, and nobody has updated it
- Small changes most months, nobody has time
- The person who built it has moved on
It is not, if
- You only want updates on a hosted platform
- You need someone on call through the night
Maintenance for sites I did not build
Start with a
take-on check.
Before I promise to look after a site, I find out what state it is in. You get the findings in writing, and they are yours whether you sign up or not.
£200½ day, fixed price
- A backup taken before anything is touched
- Every plugin, theme and integration listed, with what is out of date
- Speed, security and search basics checked
- In writing: what to fix first, which plan fits, and what a move involves
WordPress maintenance plans: On WordPress
it is a job.
Squarespace, Wix and Shopify update themselves. WordPress ships core and plugin updates most weeks, moves PHP version once a year, and an update that goes wrong takes the site with it. The same two plans, done the way WordPress needs.
WordPress maintenance- Updates staged before they go live
- A backup restored, not just taken
- PHP kept current
Will the site go down?: No sign saying
under maintenance.
An update switches WordPress maintenance mode on for a few seconds and off again. Anything that needs the site down for longer than that, you hear when and for how long before it starts.
See the plans- A backup taken before any update runs
- Updates tried before they go near the live site
- The site put back if one breaks it
- The pages that matter checked by hand afterwards
- What was done written up on the 1st

Website maintenance questions: The questions
everyone asks.
If yours is not here, ask it on a call. Thirty minutes, and it is free.
01 What is a website care plan?
The same thing as a maintenance plan. A monthly arrangement covering the jobs a site needs whether or not you ask: updates where the platform needs them, backups, keeping an eye on whether it is up, and a set number of hours for the changes that come up. What varies between sellers is the hours and whether anybody checks the backups restore.
02 How much does website maintenance cost?
From £300 a month here, on any platform. On WordPress the updates, backups and monitoring come with hosting at £50 a month instead, so the two are not added together. What changes the number is how many hours of changes you want kept free each month, not the size of the site.
03 What are website maintenance services?
The jobs that keep a site working after it has launched: updates, backups and monitoring, and the small changes that pile up. On WordPress, the updates, backups and monitoring come with hosting at £50 a month. The changes are Manage or Grow, from £300 a month, on any platform.
04 Which plan do I need?
Manage if there are a few changes most months, Grow if the site changes all the time. On WordPress, hosting keeps the site updated on its own, so if it rarely changes, hosting with changes at £75 an hour is enough.
05 What if an update breaks something?
On WordPress hosting, the site is put back from the backup first and looked at second. Anything bigger than the plan covers is priced before it is done.
06 Will my site say "under maintenance" while you work on it?
Only for a few seconds. An update switches WordPress maintenance mode on, the screen that says website under maintenance, then switches it off again. Anything longer than that, you hear first.
07 I did not build it with you. Can you still look after it?
Yes. It starts with a take-on check, £200, so I know what I am looking after before I promise to. A WordPress site then moves onto my hosting, unless the check shows it cannot.
08 My WordPress site cannot move. Can you still update it?
Usually yes, once the take-on check has looked at the hosting. Updating a site I cannot back up or roll back is a promise I would be breaking the first time an update went wrong, so the check asks for admin, a backup I can put back, somewhere to test first, a supported PHP version and support who answer. Pass it and updates only is £75 a month. Fail it and I will tell you what is missing and what it costs to fix, which is often less than moving.
09 What happens to hours I do not use?
They do not carry over. A plan's hours are for that month, and the note with each invoice shows how many were used. If a month needs more, you get a price for the extra first, or you can move up a plan.
