Accessibility

What has been
checked, and what has not.

I build sites for other people and charge for accessibility work, so it would be poor form not to say plainly where my own stands. Everything below was measured, not assumed.

What I aim for

WCAG 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard public sector sites in the UK have to meet, and the one worth holding a private site to as well.

I am not claiming this site conforms to it. A conformance claim means somebody tested every criterion and can show the working. What I can tell you is exactly what has been checked and what the result was.

What has been checked, and passes

Every image has a text alternative
Checked across all 43 pages. Drawings that are decoration are hidden from assistive technology rather than given a meaningless description.
Every form field has a label
Not a placeholder standing in for one. The honeypot field that catches spam bots is hidden from assistive technology on purpose.
Text contrast passes AA, both themes
The lowest ratio on the site is 5.04:1 in the light theme and 5.22:1 in the dark one. AA asks for 4.5:1.
You can skip the navigation
The first thing the keyboard reaches on every page is a link straight to the content.
Focus is visible
Buttons, links, fields and the booking calendar all show where the keyboard is.
Every page says what language it is in
So a screen reader pronounces it correctly.
Motion can be turned off
Anything that moves or draws itself in respects the reduce motion setting in your operating system, and simply appears instead.
No cookie banner, and no pop-ups
Nothing covers the page or interrupts you. The analytics set no cookies at all.

What has not been checked

Something that was wrong, and is not now

The check that produced this page found a real failure: there was no way to skip the navigation with a keyboard, so somebody using one had to tab through the whole menu on every page. The target had been in the markup for weeks; the link itself had never been built. It was added on 19 September 2026.

That is exactly the sort of thing an audit is for, including on your own site, and I would rather say it here than quietly fix it.

If something does not work for you

Email hello@adamroe.co.uk and tell me what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you were using. I will reply within 12 working hours, and I would rather hear about a small annoyance than have you give up on the page.

If you need something on this site in another format, ask and I will send it.

Thirty minutes.
No pitch.
