Platform prices are per month on annual billing, from each platform's own pricing page, checked September 2026. Wix only show prices in US dollars. Platforms reprice often.

Ticked at the checkout on each platform's page, and priced the same way. Most ecommerce website design quotes bury these; here they are a line item. Where a platform's price is different, it says so.

After launch: What ecommerce
adds to care.

A shop adds £37.50 a month to whatever is paid monthly, for checking the checkout still works after updates. With nothing monthly, nothing is added, and changes are £75 an hour.

B2B ecommerce: Trade accounts,
not just a basket.

Selling to businesses is a different shop: account pricing, repeat ordering, purchase orders and a login that remembers what somebody bought last quarter. Worth building when there is repeat volume behind it, and an expensive distraction when there is not.

B2B web design
  • Account pricing and trade logins
  • Reordering from a previous invoice
  • Not worth it without repeat volume

Getting the shop found: A shop nobody finds
is a warehouse.

Building it right starts it clean: sensible URLs, one address per product, and structured data that matches what is on the page. Being found afterwards is its own job, and on a shop it is mostly technical.

Questions about ecommerce websites: Online shop
questions.

01 Which platform should my shop be on?

It depends how much of the site is the shop, and who will run it. Mostly products: Shopify. A service business selling a few things on the side: Squarespace, or Wix if you take bookings too. A site that publishes a lot and sells as well: WordPress with WooCommerce. Not sure: tell me what you sell, and you will get a straight answer.

02 What does the build price include?

Five pages and up to 25 products, with the structure, design from a theme, search basics and handover every package includes. The shop is set up to take orders: payments, up to 3 shipping rates, VAT and order emails. You get the logins and a written guide to the everyday changes.

03 What if I have more than 25 products?

Each further 25 loaded by hand is £200, from the photos, descriptions and variants you send. Or any number can be imported from a spreadsheet or an old shop for £400, if the data is clean. On Shopify, the larger Shop package (ten pages, up to 100 products) is £3,200.

04 Can I sell subscriptions or downloads?

Yes, as extras. Subscriptions or repeat billing are £400 on Squarespace, Wix and Shopify, and £600 on WordPress. Digital downloads are £200 on every platform.

05 Can you move my shop from another platform?

Yes, as an extra: £800 on every platform. That covers the products, the customers, and redirects from the old addresses, so old links still land in the right place.

06 Will the shop be fast?

On WordPress, a shop hosted with me sits on a managed network with hundreds of locations worldwide, and pages are served ready made from the nearest one. The difference from a normal site is what happens at the basket: caching a shop badly is how people end up seeing somebody else's basket, so the basket, the checkout and the account pages are left out of the cache automatically while the rest of the shop stays quick. Shopify, Squarespace and Wix host themselves, and all three are fast.

07 Do you take a percentage of sales?

No. The build is a fixed price, and anything monthly afterwards is a fixed price too. Any fee on a sale goes to the platform or the card processor, never to me.

08 How do we pay?

Nothing is paid when you order. Once you agree the written scope, a deposit is invoiced and paid by card, and that starts the work. The balance is invoiced when the shop is finished, or paid monthly by Direct Debit from the 1st of each month, over up to six months, as long as each payment is at least £400. Monthly costs nothing extra: no interest, and no VAT charged.
