Website redesign services: A redesign that keeps
what already works.

A rebuild is a build, so the cost is on the platform pages. What makes it a redesign is everything that has to survive it.

The job

Most website redesign services are sold as a new look. The look is the easy part. The part that decides whether it was worth doing is what happens to the content you already have, the addresses people already link to, and the search positions you already hold.

A new site starts from nothing and can only go up. A redesign starts from something that works, at least partly, and the job is to find out which parts those are before replacing them.

Website redesign services: what's included: The whole list, nothing extra.

Every one of these is in the price. If a job needs something that is not here, it is in the written scope before you say yes, not on the invoice after.

What the old site is already earning

Which pages get traffic, which rank, and which nobody has opened in a year. Measured, because the pages people assume matter are usually not the ones that do.

What is worth keeping

A page-by-page decision: keep, rewrite, merge or drop. Written down before the design starts, because a redesign with no content plan becomes a design with the old words poured in.

The design

Drawn around the content that is staying, not around a template that the content then has to fit. If the brand underneath needs doing first, that is its own job and it comes before this one.

Built on what suits your team

On the platform the people keeping it running can actually use. Prices by platform are on the websites pages, and a redesign is priced the same way.

Addresses and rankings kept

Every old URL mapped to a new one before launch. This is where redesigns lose their traffic, and it is the step that gets left out of quotes.

Launch and handover

A checklist worked through line by line, then documentation and a walkthrough with whoever picks it up.

Sounds like you if

“Embarrassed to send the link.”

Sitemap and page structure

What pages exist, how they relate, and what each one is for. This is where SEO is won or lost, before a line of code.

Design, if there is none

I will design it: a site that looks considered and does the job. If the brand underneath it needs doing too, that is its own piece of work and it has its own page.

Build

From your design or mine, on a platform that suits the team who will keep it running rather than the one I enjoy most.

Real content in

Your words and pictures loaded and laid out, not lorem ipsum with a note to fill it later. If an existing site is being replaced, moving it across is its own job: see website migration.

Accessibility and performance

Keyboard, focus order, contrast and labels checked, not assumed. Core Web Vitals measured on real pages, then fixed.

Launch and handover

A checklist worked through line by line, then documentation and a walkthrough with whoever picks it up.

Sounds like you if

“We have been quoted before and never seen what we were paying for.”

Websites prices

One page

A single scrolling page, £600. A launch, a test, or a business that needs to exist online by Friday.

Five pages

Home, about, services, one more, contact, £1,200. The standard small business site.

On WordPress

The same five pages on WordPress, £1,600. More to build, and more you can change yourself afterwards.

A shop

An online shop starts at £2,000: five content pages, up to twenty-five products, payments, shipping, tax and the policies.

Changes afterwards

£75 an hour, billed after they are done, or a monthly plan if there are enough of them to be worth fixing the price.

What is never extra

The sitemap, the redirects, the accessibility pass and the handover. They are part of the build, not a line added at the end.

Sounds like you if

“We want to see the price before we talk to anybody.”

Hosting and the certificate

A WordPress site on a managed host on my account, with the security certificate kept renewed, for £50 a month. The domain stays registered in your name.

Updated every month

WordPress, the theme and the plugins brought up to date, then the pages that matter checked by hand.

A backup every day

A fresh backup every day, and another before any update runs, so any change can be undone.

Changes when you need them

A reply within twelve working hours saying what it needs and how long it will take, before any of it is started. £75 an hour, or on a plan.

The note on the 1st

What was updated, what was changed and how many hours were used, next to the invoice.

Leaving, and what you take

A month's notice after the first three months, then a full backup and help moving it, free. The domain is already yours.

Sounds like you if

“The last person built it and then we never heard from them again.”

Step 3

+2 days

Scope and content plan

What changes, what stays, what it costs and when it lands, with every page and what happens to it. Agreed before any design work starts.

Step 4

Every week

Something live

A build you can open. Decisions logged as we go.

Step 5

This is for you

Is a redesign worth it?: A website redesign is for you
if any of these sound familiar.

  • It looks dated, the business has moved on
  • It works on a desktop and fights you on a phone
  • You are embarrassed to send the link
  • Nobody can update it without ringing somebody

It is not, if

  • Nothing is wrong, it is just three years old
  • Nobody can find it, which is SEO not design
  • You want new colours by Friday

Not sure which side you are on? Say so on the call. If I am not the right person, you get the name of someone who is.

Website redesign questions: Questions I get every time.

The honest answers. If yours is not here, it is the first thing we cover.

Ask me yours
01 Will a redesign hurt my SEO?

It can, and that is the usual way it happens: the pages get new addresses and nothing maps the old ones to them, so the rankings go with the old URLs. Done properly every old address redirects once to its new one and the structure is decided before the design. If the site is also moving platform or host, that is a website migration and the redirect work is the bulk of it.

02 What does a website redesign cost?

The same as a build of the same size, because it is one: the pages are rebuilt, and the existing content is a help rather than a saving. Prices are on the website design page, by platform. What a redesign adds is the redirect map, and that is included rather than extra.

03 What do website redesign services include?

Working out what the current site is already earning, deciding page by page what to keep, designing around that, building it on a platform your team can run, and mapping every old address to a new one before launch. The design is the visible part. The content and the addresses are the parts that decide whether the new site does better than the old one.

04 What is the average website redesign cost?

There is no average worth quoting, and the ranges published online are wide enough to include almost anything. A redesign costs the same as a build on the same platform, because it is a build: the prices are published by platform on the websites pages, and there is no redesign surcharge. What can add to it is the content work, if a lot of pages are being rewritten or merged rather than moved.

05 Will we lose our Google rankings?

Not if the addresses are handled, and website redesign SEO is mostly that one thing. Sites lose rankings in a redesign for one reason above all others: the old URLs stop working and nothing says where they went. Every old address gets mapped to a new one before launch and the map is checked against the live site afterwards.

06 Can we keep our content?

Usually most of it, and the plan says which. Pages that earn their place come across, pages saying the same thing get merged, and pages nobody has opened in a year get a decision rather than a free ride into the new site.

07 How long does a redesign take?

A straightforward site is usually a few weeks. What stretches it is content: deciding what happens to two hundred pages takes longer than building the site they go into. You get a real date in the written scope, not a range.

08 Do we need a new brand as well?

Sometimes, and it is worth being honest about which problem you have. If the site looks dated, that is design. If the business no longer looks like the business you describe on the phone, that is the brand, and doing the site first means doing it twice. Brand identity is a separate job and it comes first.

09 What if we are changing platform too?

Then it is a redesign and a migration, and the migration part is the one with the risk in it. WordPress website redesign services are the common case here, either moving onto it or off it, and it has a page of its own because it is real work: listing the old site, mapping every address, moving the content, and checking afterwards.

10 How do we pay?

One of two ways, and the written scope says which. A build is a deposit, paid by card when you agree the scope, which starts the work, then the balance when it is finished, or monthly by Direct Debit where the price allows. Other work is paid as each stage is accepted. No VAT is charged.

11 What happens after launch?

You get the logins and a written guide to the everyday changes. Looking after it is optional: care starts at £300 a month, or it is yours to run.

Usually goes with: Website redesign
and website migration.

A redesign that also changes platform is two jobs, and the second one is where the traffic goes missing. Listing the old site and mapping every address is what stops a new site launching into a hole where the old one used to rank.
