adamroe. Grid Square Electrical

Concept work: Grid Square Electrical.
Brand, site and audit.

An electrician in Milton Keynes who doesn't exist, given everything a real one would get from me: a brand, every page drawn first, a WordPress site and a full technical audit of it. The business is made up. The work is real, and all of it opens below.

Concept·WordPress·Ten page·15 pages·October 2026

The brief

One electrician, working alone on planned jobs, who has to be the one a careful homeowner rings after comparing three.

Rewires, consumer units, EV chargers and landlord certificates across Milton Keynes and the towns around it. No emergency call-outs, which is a choice rather than a gap, so the site says it plainly and the wrong calls never come.

Customer 1

A homeowner planning a job

A rewire before the kitchen goes in, a fuse board an inspection flagged, an EV charger before the car arrives. They take their time, compare two or three, and check who is registered before they ring.

Customer 2

A landlord with a date

The certificate is due, the tenant needs a copy, and they want it done without having to explain the law to anybody.

Turned away

Not for

Emergencies and commercial work. Saying so on the site keeps the diary for the jobs worth having.

Before and after: From a fresh install
to fifteen pages.

On the left, WordPress as the host sets it up, with the business's name typed in: recreated for this page, because nobody kept a screenshot of the day. On the right, the site that went on that address. Drag the line to compare.

The Grid Square Electrical home page: the headline Priced before I start, tidied before I leave, and the next free day for a look
A fresh WordPress install: the default theme with one post, Hello world, under the name Grid Square Electrical

What was made: Five things,
every one of them real.

Click the card in front to open it: the site in a new tab, the rest right here, every page. The review space stays empty for a concept, because there is nobody to ask.

01 / 05WordPress, Ten page

Website

Built as a WordPress block theme straight from the mockup, so what was signed off is what went live. A page for each job worth booking, the areas named one by one, an advice blog, and a quote form short enough to finish on a phone.

Every word can be changed in the WordPress editor, with no page builder in the way. It is hidden from Google on purpose, because the business is not real.

  • 15pages, live
  • 4jobs, a page each
  • 3advice posts

02 / 05Brand guidelines

Branding

The idea is night, and a light switched on. Midnight blocks, with one electric colour, Volt, saved for the thing that matters most on each screen. The mark is four grid squares meeting at a Milton Keynes roundabout, one of them lit.

Twelve typefaces were set side by side before Hubot Sans and Mona Sans won. All of it is written down, so whoever picks it up next gets the same answer.

  • 12pages of guidelines
  • 2typefaces, from twelve
  • 16.8:1Volt on Midnight

03 / 05Website mockup

Mockup

Every page drawn before any of it was built, at desktop and phone width, in WordPress’s own block markup. It runs on the same theme file the finished site uses, so the mockup and the build cannot disagree.

The drawings do something: breakers that flip, a charger that charges, an area checker you can type a place into.

  • 11pages drawn
  • 2widths, desktop and phone
  • 1theme file, shared with the site

04 / 05A custom WordPress theme

Theme

Not a bought theme with a name typed into it: a block theme written for the business, with its own name, version and cover in WordPress, so it is plainly theirs.

Pages open in the editor inside the theme, header and footer included, so changing a price or a line looks just like the page a visitor sees. No page builder sits in between, and there is no licence to renew.

  • 8templates, one per kind of page
  • 2parts, each edited once for every page
  • 0page builders, and nothing to renew

05 / 05Full technical audit

Audit

The finished site, audited the way a paying client’s would be: every page crawled and measured on a phone, and each finding written up with what to do about it. One thing to fix first, six to do soon, and 28 checks that came back fine.

It found things to fix on my own build too, like the home page shifting on a phone as its fonts arrive, and they are on the list. The search score is low on purpose, because a concept stays out of Google, and the report says so.

  • 15pages measured on a phone
  • 100accessibility, every page
  • 92speed, the slowest page

As a package: Full technical audit, £1,200

Review

In the client's words

Nothing here yet, and for this one there never will be. Grid Square Electrical is a concept, so there is no client to ask.

Client work gets its review in this space: their words, their name and their business, with a link to the site so you can check.

The services: The same work,
for a business that exists.

Four services went into this one. Each has its own page with its price on it, or how it is priced, so this is what it would be for you.

The decisions: Why it looks
the way it does.

A concept has to look like nothing of mine, so every choice was made from the business's own story: a grid of roads, a roundabout, and a light coming on.

Decision 1

Night, and a light switched on

Midnight blocks and one electric colour, Volt, for the one thing on each screen that matters most. Volt never carries text on a light ground: measured, it is 1.14:1.

Decision 2

Four squares and a roundabout

Milton Keynes is a grid of roads with a roundabout at every junction. The mark is four grid squares meeting at one, with a square lit. It beat a lit roundabout and a single scooped square, which read as a flower and a stamp.

Decision 3

Engineered on top, easy to read underneath

Hubot Sans for headlines and Mona Sans to read, picked from twelve candidates rendered side by side. Both free and served by the theme, so no visitor’s details go to a font service.

Decision 4

Objects, not people

Drawings of the board, the charger, the certificate and the cables in the walls, each one doing something. Nobody is drawn, and no stock face stands in for anyone, because a stock face captioned as Sam would be invented proof.

Built to a checklist: Six promises,
kept on one site.

My page for electricians says what their website needs. This concept had to do every one of them, so it could sit on that page as the proof.

  1. 01 Your registration, where it is read A strip straight under the hero, before anything else. A real business puts its scheme’s badge and number there; this one says registered and insured, with no number, because a made-up one could be a real electrician’s.
  2. 02 A page for the jobs worth having Rewires, consumer units, EV chargers and landlord certificates each get a page, with a page for the smaller jobs.
  3. 03 Landlord certificates, explained Its own page and a band on the home page, with the law quoted and dated.
  4. 04 The areas you cover Named grid squares and towns, 45 of them, never a radius.
  5. 05 Proof, from your own phone Drawings stand in, labelled as drawings. The recent jobs page shows six made-up jobs in the frames a real business fills with its own photographs.
  6. 06 A quote route built for comparing Four questions: what, where, when, and a number to ring back.

What is real: A concept,
and plain about it.

Grid Square says it is a concept on every page, is hidden from Google, and was checked against Companies House on 6 October 2026 so it cannot be mistaken for anybody real.

Made up

  • The business, and Sam who runs it
  • Its recent jobs, how long a rewire takes and the next free day
  • The phone number, from Ofcom’s drama range, so it reaches nobody

Left out

  • A registration number, and any real scheme named as its own
  • Reviews, ratings and photographs of jobs
  • Prices for the electrical work

Real

  • Every place name on the areas page
  • The landlord law, quoted and dated
  • The brand, the mockup, the site and the audit
